Interview with Recruitment Chair

Expert on Ohio University Sorority Life/Recruitment:
Recent interview with Chi Omega's Recruitment Chair:
  1. How long have you been a member of greek life? I have been affiliated since fall of my freshman year at OU. This is my senior year. I am going on my fourth year of being affiliated.
  2. Have you always been interested in being greek? If yes why? I have always known I wanted to be a member of greek life. I started to decide this when I was young because my Mom went to Miami University and she was a Delta Zeta there.
  3. What do you look for in a new member? Most chapters have varying scales of value. We look for someone who is classy, intelligent, caring, genuine, out-going and well rounded.
  4. What do you think of greek life at Ohio University? I think greek life at Ohio University is a great way to be involved. OU chapters do a lot for the community as well as philanthropies.
  5. Do you participate in philanthropic events? We make a point to always participate in other chapters philanthropic events and we also have our own. Chi Omega’s national philanthropy is the Make-a-Wish foundation. Every year we have a pancake breakfast for the community and all the money we make benefits Make-A-Wish.
  6. Is there a specific GPA that you are required to uphold to be a member of your sorority? If you want to continue to be a member you must have a 2.0. To hold a position you must uphold a 2.5. Most of our members have much higher GPAs. In order to be considered for membership though you must have a 3.0.  wW take studies very seriously.
  7. Do you have help for girls if they are struggling with classes? Of course! We have girls in the chapter available to help tutor any girls who need it. We also have a filing cabinet that is full of old notes, that way if a girl is sick and misses class she might be able to find some helpful notes a pervious sister took. We do a professor excel sheet. On this sheet girls can send some information about classes they took, the professor, if they recommend other girls to take it, and so on. It is really helpful when you are scheduling classes.
  8. It sounds like you have a lot of help for the girls, who is in charge of taking care of all of this? A member of our executive board is in charge of taking care of finding tutors and helping any girls out who needs it. She is our Vice President, Jenn Habel. She plans fun study dates for girls and keeps track of everyone’s grades.
  9. What do you think is the biggest misconception about greek students at OU?  I believe that non-affiliated students believe that we are all involved in greek life only to party. That is not true though, yes there are fun social gatherings but there is also studying, philanthropy, community involvement, campus activities, friendship and more. There is so much to being greek at OU that is overlooked.
  10. Do you have support outside of your chapter, for example alumni that can help? We have an extremely supportive alumni chapter. We also have advisors. These women are each assigned to a specific position in the executive board. They are really helpful and always offer up fun ideas, and make sure we are on the right track.
